Metro India News | Hyderabad

Amid continuous rainfall triggered by Cyclone Montha, GHMC Commissioner R V Karnan and HYDRAA Commissioner A V Ranganath jointly inspected the Lakdikapul and surrounding areas on Wednesday to review waterlogging and traffic conditions.

Starting from Masab Tank towards Lakdikapul, the officials stopped near the Mehdi Function Hall to examine the accumulation of rainwater on the road. They questioned engineers about the reasons for stagnation and expressed concern over heavy traffic disruption in the area. The commissioners instructed officials to resolve the issue immediately and ensure smooth traffic flow.

Officials briefed that new two-feet-wide pipelines had already been laid on both sides of the road to connect stormwater and sewage lines from Mahaveer Hospital and Chintal Basti areas. The commissioners directed that these connections be completed quickly and the drainage works be fast-tracked on priority.

They observed that silt had accumulated inside the pipelines between Mahaveer Hospital and Mehdi Function Hall, blocking the free flow of rainwater. The commissioners suggested that removing this silt would significantly reduce waterlogging and instructed that the desilting works be completed within two days.

They also advised the Traffic Police to coordinate and ensure that the ongoing drainage connection works proceed smoothly without affecting the movement of vehicles. Additional HYDRAA Commissioner Varla Papaiah and Traffic DCP Srinivas accompanied the commissioners during the inspection and reviewed the progress of the drainage improvement works. The officials assured that immediate measures would be taken to prevent water stagnation in the Lakdikapul stretch.
