Hyderabad Police have revealed details of a massive digital piracy operation allegedly run by Ravi, the founder of the notorious movie website iBomma. Ravi is accused of uploading nearly 21,000 films, including Hollywood’s classic The Godfather (1972) and the recent Tollywood release OG.
Addressing the media on Monday, Police Commissioner V C Sajjanar said Ravi not only managed this extensive piracy network but also promoted online betting platforms, creating a complex criminal ecosystem. ‘He operated 65 mirror websites. Our teams recovered nearly 21,000 movies from his hard drives. Through piracy, he reportedly earned around Rs 20 crore, of which Rs 3 crore has been seized so far,’ Sajjanar stated.
The Commissioner added that, due to the case’s complexity and the flow of illicit funds, it will be referred to the CBI and the Enforcement Directorate. Ravi’s operations allegedly involved international links and a subscriber base of about 50 lakh users.
Investigators found that Ravi maintained the network meticulously, purchasing 101 domain names and switching them when shut down. He leaked films from streaming platforms and theaters via Telegram, later redirecting users to online betting APKs, exposing them to cyber fraud.
Sajjanar confirmed that the iBomma and Bappam websites have been dismantled and emphasized that Ravi, who once taunted the police, is now in jail. Authorities plan to seek further custody to probe the network and warned that individuals creating memes mocking the police could face serious action.
