The curtain has finally come down on iBomma, the piracy website that has been troubling the Telugu film industry and major OTT platforms for years. The mastermind behind this massive piracy network, ImmadI Ravi, also known as the “iBomma King,” who once challenged the police saying “catch me if you can,” was arrested by the Hyderabad CCS police in Kukatpally on Saturday morning. His arrest has brought several shocking details to light.
From the Caribbean to Kukatpally – A Well-Planned Operation
Ravi, a native of Visakhapatnam, had been operating the iBomma website for years from St. Kitts in the Caribbean Islands. He routinely pirated content from major OTT platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Aha, as well as newly released theatrical films, and uploaded them to his website, generating huge illegal profits.
After Telugu film producers lodged complaints, the police began tracking him. Recently, Ravi travelled from France to Hyderabad. Acting on specific intelligence that he was hiding in an apartment in Kukatpally, the police conducted a planned raid and arrested him.
Was His Wife behind the Tip-Off?
A buzz on social media suggests that Ravi’s estranged wife played a key role in his arrest. Having separated from her, Ravi reportedly came to India for matters related to their divorce case. It is being speculated that she tipped off the police as an act of revenge. Netizens are commenting that the woman he trouble during marriage ended up showing the “iBomma admin” the path to jail.
Hundreds of Crores Earned… Thousands of Crores Lost
Investigations have already revealed startling facts: Police have frozen ₹3 crore in Ravi’s bank accounts. He allegedly earned hundreds of crores through piracy over a short span. The Telugu film industry reportedly suffered losses of ₹15,000 to ₹20,000 crore over the past five years due to piracy alone. During searches at the apartment where Ravi was staying, the police seized: Multiple hard disks, HD prints of films, Computers, and several newly released films ready for upload.
The police are now investigating whether Ravi operated alone or whether he had a larger network behind him. Cybercrime officials stated that they will reveal full details after two more days of questioning and that the iBomma website will be completely shut down soon.
