Jakora, Chandur and Chintakunta LIS reaches completion: Uttam

In a major boost to the farming community in Nizamabad district, the ambitious Jakora, Chandur and Chintakunta Lift Irrigation Scheme in Banswada Constituency has reached its final stages of completion and is being readied for formal inauguration shortly.

Making the announcement, Minister for Irrigation an Civil Supplies, N  Uttam Kumar Reddy stated today  that the scheme, taken up at an estimated cost of  Rs 106.04 Crores, is designed to provide assured irrigation to 7975 acres  spread across Varni, Chandur, and Mosra Mandals in Nizamabad District.

"The scheme has now entered the final phase and is being prepared for inauguration. We propose to commence the supply of irrigation water from the ensuing Kharif season, ensuring that farmers receive timely and reliable water supply for their crops,” the Minister said in an official statement.

Highlighting the accelerated progress under the present Government, Uttam Kumar Reddy noted that although the project had received administrative sanction earlier, the actual execution of works gained significant momentum in Congress government . “The works have been actively pursued and brought to this advanced stage under the present Government, clearly demonstrating our commitment to fast-tracking critical irrigation projects and delivering tangible results on the ground for the benefit of farmers,” he added.

The infrastructure includes modern pump houses equipped with state-of-the-art machinery, an extensive network of pipelines and canals, and an efficient water distribution system to ensure optimal utilization of water with minimal losses.

A successful wet run (trial operation) of the entire lift systems has already been conducted, which has confirmed the technical readiness and operational efficiency of the scheme, the Minister informed.

Benefits to farmers

Elaborating on the expected outcomes,  Uttam Kumar Reddy said the scheme will bring multiple long-term benefits to the region by brigning new ayacut into cultivation besides stabilizing existing ayacut in the command area.

It will support filling of minor irrigation tanks an help improve groundwater levels through increased recharge. This project will not only bring additional land under assured irrigation but will also provide much-needed stability to farming activities in Varni, Chandur, and Mosra Mandals,” the Minister emphasized.

The formal inauguration of the Jakora, Chandur and Chintakunta Lift Irrigation Scheme is expected to take place in the coming weeks.
