Hyderabad: Renowned orthopaedic surgeon Dr. A. V. Gurava Reddy said that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, sports in India are receiving renewed focus, and injured athletes should not consider their careers over. He reaffirmed the commitment of the Sunshine Bone and Joint Institute to help sportspersons return through advanced care.
Kabaddi player Ramavath Nandini was felicitated at KIMS Sunshine Hospitals after overcoming serious knee injuries. In 2022, she suffered an ACL tear and underwent successful reconstruction surgery under Dr. B. Chandrasekhar, Director – Shoulder & Sports Surgery. After rehabilitation, she resumed competitive play.
In 2024, she injured the same knee again, this time damaging the meniscus. Timely surgery and structured rehabilitation enabled her return within three months.
Now selected to represent Telangana at the 72nd Senior National Women’s Kabaddi Championship, Nandini’s journey reflects resilience and expert medical support. Doctors noted that nearly 80% of Indian athletes quit sports due to injuries and stressed the importance of awareness, prevention, and modern sports medicine to sustain athletic careers.
