Kanchanbagh Police bust interstate mobile snatching gang

Kanchanbagh Police have successfully busted an organised interstate mobile phone snatching and pickpocketing gang operating across Hyderabad, Secunderabad and nearby districts.

On April 15, 2026, Syed Nazeer Ahmed lodged a complaint stating that unknown persons on a motorcycle snatched his Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 near DMRL X Road. A case was registered in Crime No.78/2026 under sections 304 and 112 of the BNS and investigation was launched immediately.

Police analysed CCTV footage, developed technical inputs and conducted field enquiries, leading to the phased arrest of accused persons and exposure of a larger syndicate.

Those arrested include Ambata Naresh @ Kavati Naresh, Banala Arun Kumar @ Nani, Mekala Chiranjeevi @ Chiru, Thota Suri @ Suresh @ Surya, Thota Chandu, and receiver Sandeep Jaiswal. Several others, including Thota Vasanth, Shashi and Prem, are absconding.

The gang targeted crowded public places such as bus stops, markets and tiffin centres, using motorcycles, distractions and concealment techniques to snatch high-end smartphones. Stolen devices were sold for Rs. 1,500 to Rs. 2,000 or dismantled for parts.

Police recovered mobile phones, batteries, camera units, handset bodies and a Bajaj Pulsar motorcycle used in offences. Officials appreciated the investigation team for their swift and coordinated action.
