Telangana Rakshana Sena (TRS) president K Kavitha has declared that her association with the BRS, led by her father K Chandrasekhar Rao, is over and that she is focused on building her new party.
In an interview with PTI Videos, Kavitha said, “That chapter is closed. I have closed the book called BRS and will write a new history with Telangana Rakshana Sena.”
Responding to a question on possible reconciliation with BRS, she ruled out a return, saying she was committed to building a “great Telangana” based on social justice and regional aspirations.
Kavitha said launching a new party was never her original plan but became necessary after her suspension from BRS without a show-cause notice or internal consultation. She alleged that legitimate concerns she raised regarding some party leaders and relatives led to her exit.
Criticising political parties in Telangana, including BRS, for focusing excessively on national issues, she said her party would concentrate on regional concerns. She accused BRS of drifting away from the ideals of the Telangana movement, failing to adequately recognise statehood activists and support the families of martyrs.
According to Kavitha, once BRS moved away from its core ideology, its bond with the people weakened. She admitted that she could have done more while in power but noted that individual leaders have limitations within a party structure.
On political rivals, she said the Congress is the principal opponent because it is in power, while both BRS and BJP are in “sleep mode.” She claimed that only her party was actively agitating on public issues.
Kavitha said TRS has already taken up issues such as crop procurement, regulation of school fees and protection of Telangana’s share in Krishna and Godavari river waters. She also demanded that state-run Singareni Collieries be allotted Telangana coal blocks without having to compete with private companies.
Addressing objections from BRS over the Election Commission allotting the acronym “TRS” to her party, she said only the acronym had been granted. She questioned why Congress and BRS leaders were allegedly removing her party’s posters if they considered the outfit insignificant.
On the Delhi excise policy case, Kavitha said charges were never framed against her and noted that a court had found no grounds to proceed. Since the ED and CBI have appealed the order, she said she would leave the matter to the judiciary.
Expressing confidence in her party’s future, Kavitha said TRS would champion corruption-free politics focused on youth, women and farmers, and could consider alliances with like-minded parties, including Left groups. Suspended from BRS in September 2025, she launched TRS in April 2026.
