BRS Working President K.T. Rama Rao has urged the Union government to immediately intervene and address the severe shortage of LPG cylinders affecting both commercial establishments and households. In a letter to Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri, KTR highlighted the growing crisis caused by disruptions in LPG supply and called for urgent corrective measures.

KTR stated that the shortage of LPG cylinders has severely impacted hotels, eateries, PG hostels, and several small food related businesses that depend on regular gas supply for their operations. He warned that if the situation is not addressed immediately, thousands of small businesses could be forced to shut down, affecting the livelihoods of lakhs of workers and causing serious inconvenience to students and working professionals.

Pointing out that the issue is particularly affecting urban clusters and IT corridor areas where a large number of students and employees rely on PG hostels and food establishments, KTR said the shortage could trigger a wider socio economic impact if supply is not restored quickly.

To tackle the crisis, KTR suggested several practical measures to the Union government. He proposed introducing a tier based LPG allocation system to ensure that small businesses receive adequate supply and are not pushed out by bulk consumers. He also recommended the creation of a real time public dashboard to provide transparent information about LPG cylinder availability and supply status across regions.

In addition, KTR urged the Centre to temporarily freeze the prices of commercial LPG cylinders to prevent additional financial burden on small business operators during the current crisis.

He also called for strict action against the illegal diversion of domestic LPG cylinders for commercial purposes and demanded stronger monitoring mechanisms to curb black marketing.

Further, KTR recommended that PG hostels serving large student and employee populations in IT corridor regions be placed under a special protection category to ensure uninterrupted LPG supply. He also requested that gas based crematoriums be treated as essential services and given priority allocation so that their operations are not disrupted.

Describing the current situation as a serious livelihood crisis rather than a routine supply issue, KTR urged the Union government to act swiftly and restore LPG supply through coordinated intervention.
