On the occasion of Ambedkar Jayanti, Vishwa Hindu Parishad leader Pagudakula Balaswamy called for a legal fight to cancel caste certificates of individuals who have converted to other religions but continue to avail reservation benefits. In a statement issued on Wednesday, he urged authorities to conduct detailed inquiries and take strict legal action against such cases.

Balaswamy alleged that many individuals are officially claiming Hindu identity in certificates while practicing Christianity in their daily lives to access government benefits. He said reservations should be limited to those facing social discrimination within Hindu society and termed the misuse of Scheduled Caste certificates after religious conversion as unconstitutional.

He demanded that revenue officials, particularly at the mandal level, exercise caution while issuing caste certificates and initiate verification drives. He further alleged that converted individuals are availing benefits across education, employment, business, subsidies, and even political positions, depriving genuine beneficiaries and causing serious injustice.

Calling it “daylight exploitation,” he urged citizens to report such cases to revenue authorities and support a legal movement to safeguard rightful beneficiaries. He announced awareness campaigns from rural areas to universities on reservation eligibility.

Balaswamy maintained that individuals are free to follow any religion, but must voluntarily surrender caste-based certificates and benefits upon conversion. He also alleged that misuse is not limited to SCs but extends to BC, OC, and ST categories, and insisted that those availing reservations while practicing another faith must face legal consequences without exception.
