A 38-year-old man was arrested on Saturday in connection with the alleged rape and murder of a woman from Assam, police reported. Authorities launched an investigation after receiving a complaint on October 23 about an unconscious woman lying outside an eatery in Begumpet during the morning hours.

The victim, estimated to be between 30 and 35 years old, had visible injuries on her face and other parts of her body. A liquor bottle and some food items were found near her.

The complainant, who identified the woman, suspected foul play and informed the police that unknown individuals might have caused her death. Following leads, police traced and apprehended Y Reddappa, a resident of Anantapur district in Andhra Pradesh.

During interrogation, he admitted his involvement in the crime. He stated that he had seen the woman sitting alone on the footpath late on the night of October 22 and initiated a conversation with her. Both then moved to a secluded spot nearby, consumed liquor she had brought, and engaged in consensual sexual activity.

According to the accused, when he attempted further sexual activity, the woman resisted due to her physical condition. In a fit of rage, he assaulted her with his hands and fists, forcibly raped her, and throttled her to death.
