Medicover Hospitals has successfully performed a complex living donor liver transplant on a 50-year-old patient, Golla Shankar from BHEL, giving him a renewed chance at life .For most of his life, Shankar lived with a severe neuromuscular condition that caused significant deformities in all four limbs and severely restricted his mobility. Despite these challenges, he faced life with remarkable resilience and determination.
When he developed end-stage liver disease, his condition became critical. He presented with severe jaundice, massive ascites, portal hypertension, esophageal varices, and recurrent hepatic hydrothorax.
After extensive evaluation and planning, the transplant team proceeded with a lobe living donor lver transplant. Though the surgery was successful, Shankar experienced various complications. Through continuous monitoring, advanced imaging, intensive care support and timely interventions, the multidisciplinary team successfully managed these complications.
Today, three years after the transplant, Shankar continues to lead a fulfilling and productive life.
