The National Education Day and Minorities Welfare Day Celebrations were held at Ravindra Bharathi, Hyderabad on Tuesday, under the aegis of the department of Minorities Welfare, commemorating Bharat Ratna Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, the eminent freedom fighter and the first Education Minister of Independent India.
The event was graced by Minister for Minority Welfare & Public Enterprises, Mohammed Azharuddin as the Chief Guest.Telangana Urdu Academy Chairman Taher Bin Hamdan presided over the function, while Advisor to Government, Mohammed Ali Shabbir attended as the guest of honour.
Delivering his address as the chief guest, Minister Mohammed Azharuddin stated that he is a fast decision-maker and sought the cooperation of officials to implement welfare initiatives with the same pace. "This being my first public appearance after assuming office, I paid rich tributes to Maulana Abul Kalam Azad for his remarkable contribution to India’s freedom movement and his visionary emphasis on education," he said.
The Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to the upliftment and holistic development of minorities through education, empowerment, and equal opportunities. Speaking on the occasion, Advisor to Government Mohammed Ali Shabbir recalled that Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, after India’s independence, chose to serve as the first education minister, recognising the pivotal role of education in nation-building.
Citing the first revealed verse of the Holy Quran, “Iqra”—meaning “to read”—he underlined that every faith upholds the value of knowledge. He called for increased enrollment and regular attendance in minority educational institutions, ensuring that no student is left behind.
