Union Minister for Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy on Saturday said the Centre was fast tracking the expansion of the MMTS network up to Yadadri as part of a larger plan to strengthen Hyderabad’s suburban railway infrastructure and improve connectivity for commuters and pilgrims alike.
After inspecting the ongoing railway station modernisation works at Malakpet and Uppuguda railway stations in Hyderabad’s Old City, Kishan Reddy said the Narendra Modi led NDA Government was committed to providing world class railway facilities to people in every part of the city, including the Old City region.
Highlighting the importance of the MMTS Phase II project, he said the works were progressing rapidly and would significantly improve public transport facilities for Hyderabad residents. He added that the MMTS extension works up to Yadadri were also underway, which would benefit thousands of devotees travelling to the famous temple town.
The Union Minister further stated that a new railway station at Komuravelli Mallanna Temple had been completed to provide better transport connectivity to devotees visiting the shrine. He said 100 percent of the station works had been completed and the facility would be dedicated to the public either in the last week of this month or the first week of next month.
Recalling that Uppuguda and Malakpet stations were once among the busiest railway stations in the city, Kishan Reddy said the Centre was now restoring their past glory through large scale redevelopment works. He said the stations were being upgraded with lifts, escalators, expanded platforms, platform shelters, improved parking facilities, circulating areas and modern waiting halls to provide a better travel experience for passengers.
He said the Centre was simultaneously modernising several railway stations across Hyderabad including Hafeezpet, Begumpet, Nampally, Secunderabad, Hitec City, Malakpet, Yakutpura, Uppuguda, Umdanagar, Shadnagar, Malkajgiri and Medchal to ensure balanced development across all parts of the city.
Kishan Reddy also noted that Secunderabad Railway Station was being redeveloped at an estimated cost of around Rs 720 crore with world class standards comparable to Shamshabad Airport, while Nampally Railway Station was being modernised with an investment of nearly Rs 350 crore. Meanwhile, he announced that he would flag off the new Charlapalli to Tiruchanur weekly train service at Charlapalli Railway Station on Sunday night at 9 pm.
