Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy on Thursday said the redevelopment of the Hyderabad (Nampally) Railway Station is part of the Centre’s broader effort to modernize railway infrastructure across the country and strengthen public transport systems in major cities.
After inspecting the ongoing development works at the Nampally station along with officials of the South Central Railway, the Union Minister stated that Indian Railways has witnessed a new phase of transformation and modernization since the formation of the Narendra Modi government.
Describing the Nampally station as a key railway hub for Hyderabad city, Kishan Reddy said the station is being upgraded to meet future transportation needs and to provide passengers with world class facilities. At present, nearly 60 trains operate through the station daily and around 20,000 passengers use the facility every day.
The redevelopment project, aimed at transforming the station into a modern transport hub, has been sanctioned with an allocation of ₹350 crore by the Central government. The tender for the project has been finalized at ₹327 crore. The Minister said additional funds would be provided in the second phase if required to ensure the project is completed with the highest standards.
As part of the redevelopment plan, the station building will be redesigned in a fully modern architectural model replacing the older structure. A central hall with an area of about 6,500 square feet will be constructed above the station premises. The hall will house restaurants, food courts and commercial stalls, providing better waiting and relaxation spaces for passengers.
The station will also feature 16 lifts and eight escalators for convenient passenger movement. Two basement levels will be developed to provide parking facilities for about 150 vehicles. Modern retiring rooms, dormitories, WiFi connectivity and CCTV surveillance will also be provided.
Kishan Reddy said the project is targeted for completion by the end of 2027 and assured that he would personally monitor the progress while the South Central Railway General Manager’s office would oversee the works regularly.
Highlighting railway development in Telangana, the Union Minister noted that the State’s railway budget allocation has increased from ₹258 crore in 2014 to ₹5,454 crore currently. Railway infrastructure projects worth nearly ₹47,984 crore are currently underway in the State, including new lines, electrification, station redevelopment and track expansion works.
He added that 42 railway stations in Telangana are being modernized and several major projects, including new lines, high speed corridors and MMTS expansion, are progressing rapidly under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
