Medical and Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav clarified on Monday that the company which supplied the adulterated cough medicine that led to the death of 12 children in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan has not made any supplies to Andhra Pradesh. State Health and Family Welfare Commissioner Veerapandian, Director General in charge of State Drug Control Administration (DG) Drug Control Authority and State Medical Services Infrastructure Development Corporation (APMSIDC) MD Girisha presented the latest developments to the Minister.
The Minister said that there is no need for anyone to worry as there is no trace of adulterated cough medicine in the state. As per the directions of the Director General of Health Services (DG, Health Services) of the Union Health Ministry, the officials have been directed not to prescribe liquid medicines for cough and cold to children below the age of two years. The in-charge Director General (Drug Control Administration) mentioned that the drug inspectors did not find any evidence that the company was supplying cough syrup to the pharmacies and also made it clear that the administration at the headquarters was monitoring it on a regular basis.
She also said that the government is using 4 types of cough medicines and that apart from the combination formulation single molecule syrup was being supplied to to government hospitals. She informed that a combination of 'Coldif' cough medicine was supplied from Kancheepuram-based company (Shrishan Pharmaceuticals) in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan.
