In a remarkable display of collective mindfulness and cultural reverence, more than 1,500 participants gathered at the spiritual tourism site of Ramanaarayana Kshetram in Vizianagaram district on Friday morning to take part in the state government’s ‘Yogandhra’ initiative. Organized under the leadership of the district administration, the event was a part of the month-long yoga awareness campaign launched by the Andhra Pradesh government.
The yoga demonstration took place in a symbolic formation resembling Lord Rama’s bow, at the sacred feet of Ramanaarayana Swamy. Minister Konda Palli Srinivas, District Collector Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, and Joint Collector S. Sethumadhavan led the event, which saw enthusiastic participation from government staff, healthcare workers, and local villagers, all dressed in white to mark the spiritual occasion.
Yoga instructors from the AYUSH department, including Dr. Arishetti Indumathi and Sundara Sivarao, guided the participants through a 45-minute session of yoga asanas. After the session, all attendees were offered temple darshan and prasadam, courtesy of the NCS Trust, which also honored the dignitaries with traditional shawls.
Speaking at the event, Minister Srinivas emphasized that yoga is a valuable heritage passed down by our ancestors and that its practice is essential for physical and mental well-being. “This initiative aims to create awareness and encourage public participation in holistic health,” he said, announcing future yoga events at Chintapalli Beach, Ramatheertham, and Tatipudi Reservoir.
The event marked the launch of a broader plan to engage 7.8 lakh citizens across the district, with mass yoga sessions including a major demonstration by 5,000 MGNREGS workers scheduled for June 10.
