Police welfare remains top priority: DGP Anand

Telangana Director General of Police C.V. Anand on Monday said the welfare of police personnel and their families continues to be the department's top priority. He reviewed the functioning of the Police Welfare Society and the Arogya Bhadratha health protection scheme at a meeting with senior police officials.

The DGP said the department is expanding welfare measures covering healthcare, education, insurance, scholarships, marriage assistance and low-interest loans. He revealed that 33,126 police personnel and their family members received treatment under the Arogya Bhadratha scheme in 2025, while another 12,392 beneficiaries availed medical services during the first six months of 2026. The department spent Rs.181.74 crore under the scheme in 2025 and Rs.73.61 crore between January and June 2026.

Reviewing insurance benefits, Anand said the families of police personnel who lose their lives in accidents while in service are provided financial assistance ranging from Rs.5 lakh to Rs.25 lakh, depending on the employee's rank.

He directed officials to digitise all welfare schemes through a unified online platform to improve transparency, accountability and real-time monitoring. The DGP also stressed the need for adequate budget allocation and effective implementation of welfare programmes, including support for the Young India Police School, scholarships, competitive exam coaching and marriage assistance.

Anand instructed officials to ensure eligible personnel receive housing, education, marriage and personal loans on time and said every deserving police employee should benefit from the welfare schemes without delay.
