Commissioner R.V. Karnan has directed Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) officials to accelerate pending road repair works and ensure that public safety is not compromised during the monsoon. He also appealed to citizens to promptly report road-related problems to the GHMC helpline so that corrective measures can be taken without delay.
As part of an intensive road safety drive, GHMC has been carrying out large-scale maintenance works across the city. The focus has been on filling potholes, repairing catch pits, replacing damaged covers, and fixing central medians. According to official figures, a total of 13,120 potholes were identified, out of which 10,390 have already been repaired. In addition, 522 catch pits have been restored, 301 covers replaced, and minor works on eight central medians completed.
The zone-wise progress indicates significant activity. In LB Nagar, 2,868 potholes were identified, of which 2,381 were repaired. Charminar zone recorded 2,227 potholes, with 1,826 fixed. Khairatabad zone saw 1,721 potholes, out of which 1,343 have been repaired. Serilingampally zone reported 1,938 potholes, with 1,290 addressed, while Kukatpally zone recorded 1,941, with 1,706 repairs completed.
Secunderabad zone reported the highest number of potholes at 2,425, with 1,844 already repaired. Karnan emphasized that the remaining repair works must be completed quickly to prevent inconvenience to commuters and to reduce the risk of accidents during heavy rains. He reiterated that citizen feedback plays a vital role in improving road safety and urged residents to actively use the GHMC helpline to report issues.
