The Rachakonda police conducted a special drive against food adulteration racketeers and booked 46 cases and arrested a total of 52 people on Wednesday. Special teams comprising the Special Operations Team, local police, and Armed Reserve conducted simultaneous raids on premises where adulterated food items were processed.
Rachakonda police said ‘during the raids, several violations were noticed in addition to unhygienic preparation of food products. The violations included no FSSAI licence, sale without trade licence, selling without manufacturing or expiry dates, and use of banned synthetic food colours.’
The police found that many of the manufacturers were affixing counterfeit labels of reputed brands on the product packages and selling them in the market. During the raids, the police seized 575 litres of adulterated ghee, 7,000 litres of ginger garlic paste, 35 kilograms of adulterated paneer, and immunity-boosting tablets and powder worth Rs 10 lakh.
And also police seized some quantities of dhaniya powder, milk, turmeric powder, bakery items, biscuits, sweets, and ice creams from the manufacturing units. Further investigations are underway to trace out the distribution network, said Rachakonda police.
