Rains revive hope for farmers

After weeks of scorching heat and prolonged dry weather triggered by El Niño conditions, widespread rainfall over the past two days has brought much-needed relief to farmers in Jannaram mandal. The showers have revived paddy nurseries that were on the verge of drying up, renewing hopes for a successful kharif season.

The delayed onset of adequate rainfall had left farmers deeply worried as temperatures remained unusually high even after the start of the monsoon. Many had already sown paddy nurseries nearly two weeks ago, expecting seasonal rains. However, the absence of rainfall and intense heat pushed the young crop to the brink of withering, raising fears of heavy financial losses after substantial investments in seeds, labour and cultivation.

With timely rains finally arriving across several villages in the mandal, the situation has improved significantly. The parched nurseries have regained moisture, and fresh green growth is becoming visible in the fields. Farmers say the rainfall has restored confidence and eased concerns over crop survival.

The improved weather conditions are expected to support agricultural operations in the coming days. Farmers expressed optimism that if rainfall continues at regular intervals, transplantation and other kharif farming activities will gather pace across the mandal.

Many farmers described the recent showers as a lifeline, saying nature has finally come to their rescue after an anxious wait. The rains have not only saved paddy nurseries but have also boosted morale among the farming community, which now looks forward to a productive cultivation season.
