SCR steps up water quality check

188 water samples pass quality tests

Metro India News | Hyderabad : South Central Railway (SCR) has strengthened water-quality monitoring at railway stations and colonies to ensure safe drinking water for passengers and staff. Monitoring and testing arrangements have been intensified at Hyderabad Railway Station and Railway Colony.

The water-supply system at the station was reviewed, covering municipal supply, storage, chlorination and distribution. Daily monitoring of water quality and residual chlorine levels has been introduced, along with regular bacteriological testing for E. coli contamination as per prescribed procedures.

Between September 9 and 15, 2026, a total of 188 routine water samples were collected from Hyderabad Railway Station and Railway Colony and tested for residual chlorine levels and bacteriological contamination. All 188 samples were found satisfactory. No sample was declared unfit and no E. coli-positive sample was detected.

South Central Railway General Manager Sanjay Kumar Srivastava directed officials and supervisory staff to ensure strict compliance with prescribed water-quality standards.

He said SCR would continue regular testing, monitoring and supervisory checks of water-supply arrangements at all railway stations and colonies to ensure safe and quality drinking water for passengers and railway staff.
