In a significant step towards water conservation and sustainable environmental management, the Landscape Garden at the Telangana Secretariat has commenced the daily use of treated water from the Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) for gardening and landscaping purposes. Through this initiative, approximately 1,50,000 litres of freshwater per day will be replaced with STP-treated water, thereby conserving precious freshwater resources and promoting the effective reuse of treated wastewater.
Apecially designated green water tankers were flagged off on Sunday by Ashok Reddy, Managing Director, Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB). The program was attended by HMDA Assistant Director of Horticulture D. Chakrapani, HMDA Horticulture Officer V. G. Sunder, FSO Sitaramulu and other officials. STP-treated water is also being utilized for maintaining the landscape garden at Green Lands Guest House, Begumpet, the official residence of the Chief Secretary, Government of Telangana.
This initiative is helping replace approximately 30,000 litres of freshwater daily, further contributing to water conservation. By adopting treated wastewater for landscape maintenance, the Secretariat is setting an example for other government institutions and public establishments to embrace water recycling and sustainable urban development.
