Energy Department Special Chief Secretary K Vijayanand said on Friday that energy conservation should be a part of our daily lives, otherwise it will be darkness for future generations. He was speaking at the award ceremony for the State Energy Conservation Award winners at a hotel in Vijayawada town on Friday as part of the National Energy Conservation Week celebrations. Joint Secretary of the Energy Department and CEO of APSECM B.A.V.P. Kumara Reddy presided over the awards ceremony.

Speaking on the occasion, K. Vijayanand said that it is a matter of pride that our state has won the first prize in energy conservation at the national level.  He  said that if we save one unit of energy, it is as if we produce one unit. He said that as part of Vision-2047, we should move forward as a 50-60 percent green energy state. Vijayanand said that if we follow the advice and suggestions of experts in the use of lights, electric appliances such as fridge, iron, AC, greaser, washing machine, computer and other appliances, we can save half of the electricity.He called for increase in awareness and also usage of solar energy. He said that solar-powered devices will not only save electricity, but we will also become electricity producers ourselves. 

AP Genco MD KVN Chakradhar Babu said that coal-based power generation plays a major role in our country and warned that if we waste electricity, the availability of our natural resources will he said that the coal available in our country is not enough, and today we are importing coal from abroad at high prices. He warned that due to this, coal prices are increasing day by day. He said that it is our responsibility to provide natural resources to future generations. 

APCPDCL CMD P. Ravi said that in view of the huge potential for saving energy, it is imperative for government departments, government and private institutions as well as every citizen of the state to play their part in energy conservation. He said that people should make energy saving their lifestyle. He said that everyone should use only BEE star rated home appliances and energy efficient appliances in their homes. He said that family members should be made aware of how to prevent wastage of electricity and water. 

Later, prizes were given to those who won the State Energy Conservation Awards. Mementos and prizes were also given to the winners of the competitions organized for students.
