30 students fall ill after hostel meal

Around 30 students of the government-run Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Residential School for Girls in Bellampalli, Mancherial district, fell ill after allegedly consuming stale food served at the hostel on Wednesday night.

According to parents, the students developed symptoms such as vomiting and severe stomach pain shortly after having dinner at around 9 pm. School authorities immediately shifted the affected students to a nearby hospital, where they received treatment. After their condition improved, they were discharged around midnight.

However, the students reportedly experienced the same symptoms again on Thursday morning. They were rushed back to the hospital for further treatment and were under medical observation at the time of reporting.

The incident caused anxiety among parents, who expressed serious concern over the quality and hygiene of food being served at the residential school. They demanded a thorough inquiry into the incident and urged officials to ensure that students receive safe and hygienic meals. They also called for strict monitoring of hostel kitchens to prevent similar food poisoning incidents in the future.

Officials said food samples collected from the school kitchen would be sent to a laboratory for testing to determine the exact cause of the suspected food poisoning. Further action will be taken based on the laboratory report and the findings of the investigation.
