In a significant move to make property registration more citizen-friendly and transparent, the Telangana government is working on an overhaul of the Stamp Duty policy in line with the spirit of the Indiramma governance model, said Revenue, Housing and I&PR Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy.
Speaking after a high-level review meeting at Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Secretariat, the Minister revealed that the government is preparing to introduce the Telangana Stamp Amendment Bill-2025 in the upcoming Legislative Assembly session. The goal, he emphasized, is to streamline the process without burdening the common man, while ensuring legal sanctity and transparency in property transactions.
As part of the Telangana government’s ongoing efforts to make property registration more inclusive and transparent, Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy announced key proposals under the upcoming Stamp Amendment Bill-2025. Among the major highlights is a proposed reduction in stamp duty for women, aligning with the government's commitment to women empowerment.
Additionally, the government is exploring stamp duty relief for old apartments, with concessions likely to be based on the date of original registration-a move aimed at easing the burden on middle-class homeowners. The Minister also revealed that the existing stamp duty policy is being revamped, replacing the 2021 amendment bill, which was returned by the Centre in 2023.
