Director General of Police, Telangana, B. Shivadhar Reddy, on Wednesday inaugurated a nine-month Basic Induction Training Programme for Delhi Prisons personnel at the State Institute of Correctional Administration (SICA), Chanchalguda, underscoring the critical role of correctional services in societal reform.
The programme, a major inter-state collaboration initiative, will train 381 Delhi Prisons personnel in phases through 2026. The first batch comprises 62 trainees, including Assistant Superintendents, Matrons, and Warders, with participation also from Telangana and Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
Highlighting the evolving role of prison administration, Shivadhar Reddy said the service goes beyond “lock-and-key duties” and focuses on reformation and reintegration of inmates. He urged trainees to uphold discipline, integrity, and a humane approach.
Director General of Prisons & Correctional Services, Telangana, Soumya Mishra, noted that Delhi Prisons’ decision to depute a large batch reflects confidence in SICA’s training standards. She emphasized the importance of institutional training and collaboration in strengthening correctional systems nationwide.
The training curriculum blends theory—covering criminology, psychology, law, and human rights—with physical conditioning, including parade drills, yoga, and fitness routines. SICA’s modern infrastructure, including advanced classrooms, hostel facilities, and training grounds, will support the programme.
The event also saw officials celebrating the 60th birthday of the DGP, acknowledging his leadership and service. Senior prison officials and staff attended the inaugural session.
