Two individuals arrested in connection with a massive mephedrone manufacturing racket in Cherlapally have been transported to Mumbai after being presented before a local court in Kushaiguda on Saturday. A transit warrant was secured for their transfer.
According to an official from the Mira Bhayander Vasai Virar Police, the suspects Srinivas Vijay Voleti, owner of Vagdevi Laboratories Private Limited, and Tanaji, a chemical analyst at the same facility will be produced before a Mumbai court on Monday. Authorities intend to seek their custody for further investigation.
‘Preliminary findings suggest the duo had been supplying mephedrone to a specific gang for the past year,’ the official said.
Police previously raided the facility and seized 5.79 kg of MD (mephedrone), 35,500 liters of chemical solutions, 950 kg of powder, drug-manufacturing equipment, and other materials. Investigators estimate that drugs worth Rs 12,000 crore could have been produced from the seized substances.
So far, 12 individuals have been arrested in connection with the case. The overall seizure includes 5.968 kg of MD, 27 mobile phones, three four-wheelers, one two-wheeler, four electronic weighing scales, and a large quantity of raw materials used in drug production.
