Doctors at TX Hospitals in Banjara Hills, performed a complex emergency surgery, saving the lives of a 29-year-old mother and her twin babies. The case involved placenta percreta - a severe condition where the placenta grows beyond the uterus and invades surrounding organs, in this instance, penetrating into the urinary bladder and cervix.
Ayesha Siddiqua, from Zaheerabad, was 28 weeks pregnant with DCDA twins when she presented with recurrent vaginal bleeding. She had a past history of two cesarean sections and a uterine procedure, placing her at high risk.
Initial ultrasound suggested placental abnormalities, which were confirmed through a detailed MRI scan - revealing a rare and dangerous condition called placenta percreta with Grade IV placenta previa, where the placenta had penetrated deep into the uterus, completely covering the lower segment and extending into the urinary bladder and cervix.
The patient was first taken to the cath lab, where balloon catheters were carefully placed in both common iliac arteries by Dr. Avinash Dal, Senior Consultant, Vascular Surgeon, to reduce the risk of life-threatening bleeding during surgery. She was then shifted to the operating theatre, where Dr. Sruthi Palakollu and Dr. Sudha S, Consultants, Gynaecologists & Obstetricians, prepared for one of the most technically difficult surgeries.
