Veteran journalist and academic Dasu Krishnamoorthy passed away on Monday morning in New Jersey after a brief illness. He was 99, just six months short of his centenary. Krishnamoorthy had moved to the United States in 2001 to live with his daughter.
A member of the first batch of the journalism course at Osmania University (1954–55), he went on to carve a distinguished career in Indian journalism. He worked with some of the country’s leading publications, including The Indian Express, The Times of India, and Patriot. Known for his professional integrity and dedication to factual reporting, he earned the respect of colleagues and young journalists alike.
Krishnamoorthy also made significant contributions to journalism education. He served as an Associate Professor at the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), Delhi, and later shared his expertise as a guest faculty member at Osmania University, Andhra Pradesh Open University, and the University of Hyderabad. Through his teaching and mentorship, he influenced multiple generations of aspiring journalists, leaving a lasting impact on the media fraternity.
In recognition of his lifelong contributions to journalism and education, the Osmania University Alumni Association honoured him with the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2024.
He is remembered not only as a dedicated journalist and teacher but also as a guiding figure who inspired many in the field to uphold ethical reporting and pursue excellence. His legacy continues to resonate among colleagues, students, and the wider journalism community.
