In what can be termed as villages turning watchdogs to curb road accidents, a coordinated campaign by the police and village officials in Telangana rolled out a “No helmet, no entry” policy, barring motorcyclists without helmets from entering select villages. The pilot project was launched on Thursday in Kottagudda and Gangaram mandals of Mahabubabad district, following direct orders from District Superintendent of Police Dr. Shabarish IPS. The initiative aims for 100 per cent helmet compliance by combining enforcement with awareness at the village level.
As part of the drive, helmets were distributed free to two-wheeler riders in the villages. Large flex banners declaring “No Helmet – No Entry” were prominently displayed on main streets, sending a clear message to commuters. Gudur Circle Inspector Vinay Kumar led the campaign alongside Kottagudda Sub-Inspector Rajkumar, Gangaram Sub-Inspector Ravikumar, and local sarpanches. A helmet-wearing bike rally wound through the village roads. Speaking at the event, CI Vinay Kumar emphasized that the police were not merely issuing fines but genuinely trying to save lives.
He clarified that the “No helmet – no entry” rule was not a punishment but a protective measure. Village sarpanches have fully endorsed the program and are now taking it door-to-door to build awareness among every household. The campaign also urged parallel efforts such as installing CCTV cameras and creating a drug-free society, particularly among the youth. Police constables, ward members, and local youngsters actively participated in the launch.
