Water Board embarks on pipeline expansion in city

The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) undertook inspection of the construction of a new 300 mm diameter sewerage pipeline at Jubilee Hills in the city on Wednesday. HMWSS&B Managing Director Ashok Reddy said that a permanent solution must be found to the persistent sewage problems in parts of Hyderabad.

Officials informed the MD that the old sewerage lines had been buried under the road over time, leading to the accumulation of soil and garbage and resulting in frequent sewage overflows. They also explained that progress was slow as sheet rock had to be cut underground in the area. The MD directed officials to expedite the work to ensure a permanent solution, while also taking immediate steps to provide temporary relief to residents. Later, Ashok Reddy inspected the construction of a 450 mm diameter sewerage pipeline at Banjara Hills Road No. 12. Officials said the existing sewerage line from Road No. 12 (Sitara Grand) to Virinchi Hospital was over 30 years old, and increased flow had caused sewage overflows along a two-kilometre stretch. While de-silting had provided temporary relief, the MD instructed officials to reconstruct the pipeline as a long-term solution.

To accelerate the work, he directed that the project be completed within a month by deploying additional manpower and machinery. CGM Prabhu, GMs and other officials were present during the inspection.
