The CID should probe and HCA has to answer about the disappearance of the teams and in their place which are the teams now on-board.
Guruva Reddy Secretary, TG Cricket Association
Not so long ago, the Hyderabad cricket league was on par with the Kanga Cricket League in Mumbai producing cricketers of repute. Today, however the league has fallen to an all-time low with hardly any matches and more importantly, several institutional clubs (owned by public sector companies) have been sold to private individuals for hefty amounts, running into crores.
Speaking to Metro India, Guruva Reddy, Secretary, Telangana Cricket Association traces the rot to the game being commercialised. Also, with the advent of IPL, corruption, nepotism, one-upmanship, dishonesty, mismanagement, you name it has crippled Hyderabad cricket.
Institutional clubs such as HMT Bearings, Praga Tools, PHP cements to name a few (See box for a list of clubs that have now disappeared and do not feature in the HCA league calendar). Guruva Reddy states, these clubs normally send government officials as their representatives who more often than not have nothing to do with the game of cricket. When the stakes went up, HCA officials in connivance with officers of respective institutional clubs facilitated the sale of the clubs to private individuals.
The reason cited for institutional clubs not having teams is attributed to the lack of fresh recruitment. There have been no sports recruitment in banks and other public undertakings for over two decades and the players have turned old and are unable to turn up for matches. Guruva Reddy asks, “The CID should probe and HCA has to answer about the disappearance of the teams and in their place which are the teams now on-board.”
The TCA has been demanding the CID and other agencies to investigate the role of KTR and Kavitha, the brother-sister duo of BRS Party who allegedly influenced the HCA administration. He claimed that both KTR and Kavitha were behind the election of Jaganmohan Rao as HCA president. He further added that the role of Sampath Kumar, who acted as the HCA election officer, should be investigated immediately.
