The Orthopaedics and Joint Replacements Department at Yashoda Hospital, Somajiguda, led by Dr. Sunil Dachepalli, has successfully performed the first-ever 3D printed titanium total Talus bone replacement surgery in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

Pankaj, a 38-year-old businessman from Karimnagar, suffered a severe ankle fracture last year. Despite surgery, his Talus bone developed avascular necrosis, losing blood supply, softening, and eventually collapsing. Traditional treatment involves ankle fusion, which restricts mobility. Given his age and active lifestyle, the team opted for an advanced alternative: a custom 3D-printed titanium Talus implant.

Using CT scans of his healthy ankle, a precise replica was created and manufactured with cutting-edge 3D printing technology. The surgery was successful, and the patient is now walking pain-free and returning to normal life. Dr. Dachepalli said, ‘Instead of losing mobility, we restored it through technology.’ Dr. Pavan Gorukanti added, ‘This breakthrough marks a milestone in orthopaedic innovation and patient care in the region.’
