Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Y.S. Sharmila has undergone abdominal surgery and is recovering well, putting to rest speculation over her health after a photograph of her in a hospital bed circulated widely on social media. In a post on X, Sharmila said she had recently undergone a routine abdominal procedure and was recuperating steadily. She thanked supporters and well-wishers for their prayers and messages during her recovery.

“I am happy to share that I am recovering well after the surgery. My heartfelt thanks to everyone who prayed for me, encouraged me and stood by me during this time. Your love, support and blessings have given me strength,” she said, adding that there was no need for anyone to be concerned. Sharmila’s absence from public political activities in recent weeks had sparked speculation, particularly during nationwide protests over the alleged NEET examination paper leak. While she continued to express her views through social media, she had not been attending public events. Her latest statement clarified that the surgery was the reason for her temporary break from active political engagements.

Since assuming charge as APCC president, Sharmila has remained an active voice in Andhra Pradesh politics, frequently targeting both the ruling coalition and opposition parties on various public issues. Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh IT and Education Minister Nara Lokesh wished Sharmila a speedy recovery. Reposting her message on social media, he said he was glad to know she was recovering well and wished her good health.

“Glad to know that you are recovering well. Wishing you a complete and speedy recovery. Please take care,” Lokesh wrote.
