Rs 2,278 cr sanctioned for Adilabad Airfield Project

The Telangana government has accorded administrative sanction of Rs 2,278.14 crore for the proposed Adilabad Joint User Airfield, paving the way for land acquisition and preparatory infrastructure works. Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy said the project, being taken up under the leadership of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, is expected to emerge as a major growth driver for North Telangana.

The project will be developed over 2,009.23 acres, including 1,609.23 acres for the Indian Air Force and 400 acres for a civil aviation enclave, Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facilities, a cargo terminal, hangars and future expansion.

The sanctioned amount also covers land acquisition and infrastructure shifting works, including diversion of roads and streams, relocation of 765 KV high-tension power lines, shifting of Mission Bhagiratha drinking water pipelines and removal of electricity poles to facilitate construction.

The minister said the joint user airfield, to be developed by the Indian Air Force in coordination with the Airports Authority of India, is expected to strengthen industrial growth, cargo movement, tourism and defence infrastructure in the region. He said the project would also generate thousands of direct and indirect employment opportunities. Komatireddy said the state government has been coordinating with the Union Defence Ministry, the Civil Aviation Ministry and the Airports Authority of India to expedite the project. District authorities have been instructed to complete land acquisition and all related infrastructure relocation works by December 31, 2026, enabling the project to move into the next phase of development.
