Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) intensified its enforcement drive against water theft and seized 22 illegal electric motors in a single day across the city.

As part of the ongoing “motor-free tap drive,” officials conducted inspections in multiple areas. In the first phase, the Operations and Maintenance Division-22 team checked Hayathnagar ward during water supply hours and identified 9 motors that were directly connected to drinking water pipelines and confiscated them on the spot.

In a second late-night operation from 8 pm to 11 pm, a vigilance team along with officials carried out inspections in Gayathri Nagar ward, covering Gayathri Nagar Colony, Jyothi Nagar Colony, and Indoor Stadium Colony. During this drive, 13 more illegal motors were detected and seized.

HMWSSB officials stated that strict action will be taken against consumers involved in unauthorized water drawing. Repeat offenders will face a penalty of Rs 5,000 along with legal cases, and the seized equipment will not be returned.

The water board appealed to citizens not to install motors on pipelines even during low-pressure supply and to avoid illegal water usage. Instead, residents are advised to report supply issues to nearby HMWSSB officials or call customer care number 155313 for timely resolution of complaints.
