The Communist Party of India (Marxist) CPI(M) on Wednesday staged a protest dharna in front of the Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) regional office, accusing central government of creating an artificial shortage of petrol and diesel to exploit the public. The party demanded that the government immediately end the artificial scarcity and take strict action against oil companies allegedly involved in creating the shortage. Addressing the gathering, CPI(M) Central Committee member T. Jyothi said people in Telangana, particularly in Hyderabad, are facing severe difficulties due to the shortage of petrol and diesel.
CPI(M) leader and former Hyderabad city secretary M. Srinivas described the current shortage as proof of the “money hunger” of the BJP-led central government and oil companies, terming it a “conspiracy to loot the people.” M. Venkatesh, CPI(M) Greater Hyderabad Central City Secretary, who presided over the dharna, pointed out that long queues and “No Stock” boards were visible at petrol pumps across Hyderabad, despite the central government and petroleum companies claiming there was adequate stock. A CPI(M) delegation submitted a memorandum to HPCL Regional Manager Rahul during the protest.
