The Artificial Intelligence University being set up in collaboration with several top global institutions will be launched within the next two months, IT and Industries Minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu announced on Monday.
Speaking at the inauguration of the Covalent AI Innovation Centre, the Minister said the upcoming university will offer advanced training in emerging technologies to software professionals and students entering the job market.
The new Covalent facility currently employs about 500 engineers, and the company aims to add 3,000 more jobs over the next two years, Sridhar Babu noted.
With artificial intelligence reshaping industries at an unprecedented pace, the Minister stressed the importance of continuous reskilling and upskilling. The AI University, he said, will help equip the workforce with cutting-edge capabilities.
Sridhar Babu also praised Covalent Chairman C V Subramanyam, highlighting his journey from launching a small firm with 18 employees then known as Cigniti to building a global organization employing thousands.
Positioning Hyderabad on the global technology map, the Minister said the city combines the innovation spirit of Silicon Valley, the production strength of Shenzhen, and the governance excellence of Singapore. No other Indian city, he added, offers a more supportive or dynamic tech ecosystem.
‘Hyderabad now leads the country in the number of Global Capability Centres (GCCs). Major global banking and financial institutions have set up their GCCs here, which is a matter of pride,’ he said. He also noted the city’s rapid progress in life sciences, producing one-third of India’s vaccines and attracting several new healthcare innovation centres.
He credited these achievements to the government’s strong commitment and clear vision. Covalent chairman C V Subramanyam, IT & Industries Special Chief Secretary Sanjay Kumar, Government IT Advisor Saikrishna, and UK Deputy High Commissioner Gareth Wynn Owen were present at the event.
