April 14 is a significant day in Indian history as it marks the birth anniversary of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian Constitution, a champion of social justice, and a defender of human rights. In 2026, the nation observes his 135th birth anniversary, remembering his contributions and recognizing the continued relevance of his vision for equality.
Dr. Ambedkar’s life is an inspiring journey from a humble background to becoming a great leader. From childhood, he faced severe caste discrimination and social inequality. He was denied basic rights such as access to drinking water and was made to sit separately in school. Instead of weakening him, these experiences strengthened his resolve to bring change in society.
His academic journey was remarkable. He pursued higher education at foreign universities and gained expertise in economics, law, and political science. His knowledge was not limited to personal success but was used for nation-building. He played a key role in drafting the Indian Constitution, ensuring equal rights and freedoms for all citizens.
Ambedkar’s struggle against caste oppression was historic. Believing that injustice anywhere is a threat to society, he worked tirelessly for the upliftment of Dalits and marginalized communities. His fight was not limited to one section but became a guiding force for the entire nation.
His philosophy was based on three principles: educate, organize, and agitate. These ideas remain highly relevant today. Education empowers individuals, unity strengthens resistance against injustice, and struggle is necessary to achieve equality.
Despite rapid development and technological progress, caste discrimination and social inequalities still exist in parts of the country. In such a situation, Ambedkar’s ideas are more important than ever. True tribute to him lies not just in remembering him on his birth anniversary but in practicing his ideals in everyday life.
His life teaches that no matter how difficult the circumstances are, determination can lead to success. On this occasion, there is a need to take a pledge to eliminate caste discrimination and build an equal society. That alone will be a true tribute to Dr. Ambedkar.
