CM Chandrababu Naidu releases detailed economic report
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Monday unveiled the state’s comprehensive economic performance report for the second quarter of the 2025-26 financial year, highlighting notable progress across agriculture, industry, and services. Addressing the media at the Secretariat, Naidu said the state was steadily recovering from the economic and administrative setbacks of the previous regime and was now recording healthier growth indicators.
The Chief Minister said that rebuilding the damaged administrative machinery was essential for restoring investor confidence and fiscal stability. He criticised the 2019-24 administration for plunging the state into debt and slowing economic expansion, stating that Andhra Pradesh lost nearly ₹7 lakh crore in potential GSDP due to reduced growth during that period. He added that the state forfeited an estimated ₹76,195 crore in revenue because of sluggish economic activity and high-interest loans taken earlier.
Naidu stressed that the government had revived 93 central schemes, improved capital expenditure on long-term infrastructure, and introduced WhatsApp governance to enhance transparency. He highlighted major improvements in water security, power supply, public administration, and investment climate. “We are putting the state back on track. Every quarter is being closely monitored, and promises made to people are being fulfilled,” he said, adding that Andhra Pradesh’s economic turnaround was visible in the latest GSDP figures.
For the second quarter of 2025-26, Andhra Pradesh posted 11.28% GSDP growth at current prices, outpacing the national GDP growth rate of 8.7%. The state’s GSDP stood at ₹4,00,377 crore, up from ₹3,59,778 crore in the same quarter last year. GVA for the quarter grew by 11.30%, well above the national GVA of 8.7%. Agriculture and allied sectors expanded by 10.70%, industry by 12.20%, and services by 11.30%, placing Andhra Pradesh ahead of national benchmarks across all three sectors.
Naidu detailed strong gains in agriculture, with improvements in paddy, banana, aquaculture, and livestock production. Paddy output rose by nearly 24%, while banana output recorded a dramatic 151% surge. The industrial sector saw major growth in manufacturing, mining,
construction, and electricity generation, with power output rising by more than 19%. The services sector also recorded healthy momentum, supported by increased footfall in retail, improved transport activity, strong port cargo handling, and robust real estate performance.
Comparing past growth cycles, Naidu pointed out that the state saw 13.49% average GSDP growth between 2014 and 2019, which dropped to 10.32% between 2019 and 2024. Under the current administration, GSDP rose to 12.02% in 2024-25, surpassing the national GDP growth of 9.8% for the same period. Per capita income also improved sharply to Rs 2,66,240 in 2024-25, up from Rs 2,37,951 in 2023-24.
The first half of 2025-26 saw the state achieve Rs 7,58,270 crore in GSDP and Rs 7,03,767 crore in GVA. Agriculture, industry, and services all posted double-digit growth, enabling the state to meet 41% of its annual GSDP target within the first two quarters. The government’s goal for 2025–26 is to achieve a GSDP of Rs 18,65,704 crore and an overall growth rate of 17.11%.
On the Parakamani theft incident at Tirumala, the Chief Minister condemned attempts to dismiss the wrongdoing as a minor issue. Naidu said that the EO involved had been immediately suspended and arrested, stressing that misappropriation of temple funds could not be justified under any circumstances. He also criticised the opposition YSRCP for what he called habitual mudslinging and for attempting to politicise every issue.
The Chief Minister concluded that Andhra Pradesh was laying strong foundations for sustained long-term growth by investing in agriculture transformation, industrial expansion, modern logistics, agritech, and infrastructure. “We took a state that was on a ventilator and infused new life into it. Andhra Pradesh is now firmly back on the path of progress,” he said.
