The Andhra Pradesh government is working with the firm objective of ensuring housing for every eligible poor family by 2029, Housing and Information & Public Relations Minister Kolusu Parthasarathi said on Tuesday. Speaking to the media at the State Secretariat, the minister detailed the government's ambitious housing plans, progress made so far, and corrective steps taken to address irregularities from previous years.

Parthasarathi said the coalition government aims to construct 15.59 lakh houses over five years, of which 3 lakh houses have already been completed, many within just 16 months of the government assuming office. The remaining 12.59 lakh houses will be completed over the next four years, he said. He added that another 5 lakh houses will be completed by the upcoming Ugadi festival, followed by 87,000 more houses by June next year. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has directed that mass house-warming ceremonies be held once every three months, he said.

With the Centre extending the deadline of PMAY1.0 by one year, the government is now preparing to complete 3.03 lakh houses that had not yet begun under the previous administration. Under various components of PMAY, urban and rural, the state is targeting 8.87 lakh houses under PMAY-1.0, 91,000 under PMAY-2.0 Urban, and 5.81 lakh under PMAY-Gramin. Already, 3.47 lakh beneficiaries have applied through the Awas Yojana app, and the minister urged all remaining eligible individuals to register before the end of this month.

Parthasarathi criticised the previous government for constructing only 6 lakh houses in five years, despite sanctioning 18.61 lakh. In contrast, he said, the current government completed 3.19 lakh houses in just 16 months, while also moving ahead with the remaining 11.9 lakh pending houses sanctioned earlier, without political discrimination. He accused the earlier administration of cancelling 4.7 lakh NTR Housing Scheme units and failing to release ₹920 crore for 2.7 lakh completed houses, causing hardship to SC, ST, BC, and EBC beneficiaries.

The minister added that the state has reinstated the additional financial assistance for SC, ST, BC, and PVTG housing beneficiaries, and approved nearly ₹3,200 crore for the purpose, while also extending ₹50,000 extra assistance for minority beneficiaries.
Parthasarathi further said that a vigilance report has exposed serious irregularities by Rockrete Constructions, which was assigned 50,402 houses, of which 47,850 units were left incomplete. The report indicates nearly ₹80 crore in misappropriation, and the government has initiated steps to recover the amount and file appropriate cases across relevant districts.
