Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has announced an ambitious plan to transform the state into India’s first Green Hydrogen Valley, positioning it as a hub for clean energy innovation and investment. Speaking at the Green Hydrogen Summit held at SRM University in Amaravati on Friday, the Chief Minister called upon researchers and industries to invest in cutting-edge technologies for low-cost green hydrogen production, promising full government support and infrastructure.
“Green hydrogen is the future of energy and a game changer in our battle against climate change. Andhra Pradesh will lead the way in creating an ecosystem that fosters innovation, sustainability, and global competitiveness,” Naidu said.
The two-day summit will conclude with the announcement of the Amaravati Green Hydrogen Declaration, a policy roadmap aimed at making AP a national leader in green hydrogen by 2030. The implementation of this declaration will be reviewed annually, the Chief Minister confirmed.
In a major boost to the state’s clean energy sector, two companies signed transformative Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) worth Rs.51,000 crore in the presence of the Chief Minister. UK-based Yamna Group will invest Rs.16,000 crore to set up a 1 million tonne per annum green hydrogen plant in Krishnapatnam, Nellore district. Similarly, KSH Infra, an Indian infrastructure firm, will invest Rs.35,000 crore in Machilipatnam to build plants with a production capacity of 150 kilotonnes of green hydrogen and 600 kilotonnes of green ammonia annually.
CM Naidu urged universities and researchers to develop indigenous, affordable technologies for hydrogen production, storage, and transportation. “We must reduce energy costs and make green hydrogen accessible for the common man. This is not just an energy transition—it’s an economic transformation,” he said.
He highlighted the significance of achieving India’s 2070 net-zero emissions target, stating that Andhra Pradesh aims to play a key role in the Prime Minister’s national goal of 500 GW green hydrogen production by 2030. “We are committed to making Andhra Pradesh a pioneer in sustainable energy,” Naidu affirmed.
Naidu pointed out that green hydrogen production efforts are already underway in Andhra Pradesh, NTPC is setting up a pilot green hydrogen plant in Visakhapatnam, and a green ammonia production unit in Kakinada is also expected to begin operations soon. The summit witnessed the participation of VK Saraswat, Member of NITI Aayog, and Union Minister Pemmasani Chandrasekhar.
