Increasing the traditional healthcare services, the Central Government has sanctioned five AYUSH hospitals to Andhra Pradesh, including a 50 bed AYUSH hospital for Tenali at an estimated cost of ₹26 crore, State Minister for Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Nadendla Manohar announced on Tuesday.
The Minister, along with senior officials, inspected the premises of the old Government Hospital at Kothapeta in Tenali, where the new facility is proposed to be constructed. Addressing the media, Nadendla Manohar said the project reflects the Centre’s commitment to promoting AYUSH systems of medicine, particularly Ayurveda, which is witnessing growing global acceptance.
“Ayurveda offers holistic healthcare solutions. In the present era of climate change and rising pollution, people across the world are increasingly turning towards India’s traditional medical systems. The sanction of a 50 bed AYUSH hospital for Tenali is a matter of pride,” the Minister said.
The new hospital will be constructed within the 120-year-old government hospital premises, adjacent to the existing Urban Health Primary Centre. The Minister noted that the old building has deteriorated over time, and the government has decided to utilise the land to provide modern and accessible healthcare services to the public.
According to the plan, the AYUSH hospital will be equipped with a dedicated outpatient department (OP), 50 bed inpatient facility (IP), and modern diagnostic laboratories. The Minister added that provisions would also be made keeping future expansion in mind, including the possibility of establishing a nursing college at a later stage.
Expressing gratitude on behalf of the people of Tenali, Nadendla Manohar thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, and Health Minister Satyakumar Yadav for approving the project.
He stated that the primary objective of the AYUSH hospital is to provide affordable and accessible Ayurvedic treatment to the common people while integrating traditional systems of medicine with modern healthcare practices.
“The combined efforts of the Central and State governments to strengthen AYUSH services will greatly benefit the public. This hospital will serve as an important centre for preventive and curative healthcare in the region,” the Minister said.
