Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka on Tuesday said the Telangana government is preparing a comprehensive action plan to minimise the impact of global climatic changes, including El Niño, on agriculture, drinking water and power supply.
Addressing the state-level seminar, “From Pacific Ocean Warming to Telangana Preparedness,” organised by the Planning Department at Ravindra Bharathi, he said the government's aim is not only to implement administrative measures but also to create public awareness so that families and villages can prepare in advance.
Bhatti said scientific studies are being conducted to understand how temperature changes in the equatorial Pacific Ocean influence rainfall, water bodies and local conditions in Telangana. Based on these findings, the government is formulating strategies to ensure adequate drinking water, irrigation, and water availability for livestock and wildlife.
He said awareness would be created at the individual, village, mandal and district levels to improve preparedness. To protect farmers from drought-related losses, the government is promoting less water-intensive crop patterns based on expert recommendations.
The Deputy Chief Minister also said the state is adopting efficient energy management strategies to meet higher electricity demand during El Niño. Increased daytime use of low-cost solar power, combined with systematic thermal power management, will help maintain grid stability while reducing costs.
