Monsoon revives Adilabad waterfalls

Seasonal waterfalls across the erstwhile Adilabad district have come alive following heavy rains, drawing nature lovers and tourists to the scenic locations. The revival of streams and cascades has brought cheer among visitors and farmers after a prolonged dry spell.

The districts of Mancherial, Kumram Bheem Asifabad, Adilabad and Nirmal received significant rainfall from Monday night to Tuesday. Mancherial recorded an average rainfall of 58.4 mm, followed by Kumram Bheem Asifabad with 32.6 mm, Adilabad with 9.3 mm and Nirmal with 6.8 mm. The rains filled hill streams and revived several seasonal waterfalls across the region.

Popular waterfalls including Gayathri and Koratikal in Neradigonda mandal, Kanakai in Bazarhathnoor, Mitte or Sapthagundala in Lingapur, Babejhari in Kerameri, Gundala and Chintalamadara in Tiryani, Samutulagundam in Asifabad, Ksheera in Mandamarri and Gatrapalli in Hajipur have regained their natural beauty.

The waterfalls are attracting visitors from the erstwhile Adilabad districts, neighbouring Maharashtra and Karimnagar. Tourists, vloggers and youngsters are reaching the spots in vehicles ranging from motorcycles and cars to jeeps and tractors.

However, the growing tourist rush has raised concerns over safety. Several waterfalls in the region have witnessed drowning incidents in the past, especially among youngsters who enter deep pools without knowing the water depth. Slippery rocks and lack of warning signs further increase the risk.

Nature enthusiasts have urged authorities to install caution boards, restrict unsafe activities and deploy police personnel or local volunteers at popular locations during the monsoon season. They also stressed the need to curb alcohol consumption and reckless behaviour at tourist spots.

Visitors have also demanded basic facilities such as toilets, drinking water, improved road connectivity and proper access routes. Many scenic waterfalls remain difficult to reach due to poor infrastructure, forcing tourists to trek long distances.

With the monsoon bringing these natural attractions back to life, locals believe improved safety and facilities can help promote eco-tourism in the region while preventing accidents.
