CBI arrests 10 in KL University bribery case in Guntur

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has apprehended 10 individuals, including members of the NAAC Inspection Team and office bearers of Koneru Lakshmaiah Education Foundation (KLEF) in Guntur and KL University, Hyderabad campus, in connection with a bribery case involving favorable NAAC accreditation.

CBI registered a case against the office bearers of KLEF, Vaddeswaram (Guntur, Andhra Pradesh) and members of the NAAC Inspection Team for allegedly accepting undue advantages in exchange for granting an A++ NAAC rating to the institution.

Among those arrested are KLEF Vice-Chancellor GP Saradhi Varma, Vice-President Koneru Raja Hareen, KL University Hyderabad Campus Director A Ramakrishna, NAAC Inspection Committee Chairman and Ramchandra Chandravansi University Vice-Chancellor Samarendra Nath Saha, NAAC Member Coordinator and JNU Professor Rajeev Sijariya, and NAAC Inspection Committee Member and Bharath Institute of Law Dean Dr. D Gopal.

Following the registration of the case, the CBI conducted search operations, recovering alleged bribe payments made to the NAAC Inspection Team in the form of cash, gold, mobile phones, laptops, and other valuables. Raids were carried out at 20 locations across India, including Chennai, Bangalore, Vijayawada, Palamu, Sambalpur, Bhopal, Bilaspur, Gautam Budh Nagar, and New Delhi.

Authorities have so far seized Rs. 37 lakh in cash, six Lenovo laptops, an iPhone 16 Pro, and several incriminating documents related to the case. The investigation is ongoing.
