Chief Minister N.Chandrababu Naidu on Monday sought a detailed report from health department officials after cases of diarrhea were reported from Tallavalasa village in Santabommali mandal OF Srikakulam district. According to officials, six villagers fell ill between Saturday night and Sunday morning and were shifted to the Tekkali government hospital. Another three cases were admitted on Monday. Of the affected individuals, belonging to different families, five are currently under treatment and recovering, while three have already been discharged.
Officials informed the Chief Minister that one elderly patient, Chinnarao (70), passed away, but clarified that his death was not linked to diarrhea. Medical reports confirmed that he had been suffering from kidney-related ailments and died due to multi-organ dysfunction leading to cardiac arrest. Tallavalasa receives water through one open well feeding five public taps, and two hand pumps. Samples tested by the Rural Water Supply (RWS) department showed no contamination, confirming the water was safe for consumption.
However, as a precaution, officials temporarily halted water supply from the well and deployed water tankers to ensure safe drinking water. District Panchayat officials and RWS engineers have been stationed in the village to oversee sanitation and water distribution. To identify the root cause of the outbreak, the Deputy DMHO and an epidemiologist are conducting on-ground assessments. Medical teams are visiting households to examine residents and track potential sources of infection.
