Dr. Varaprasad Reddy, Founder and Chairman of Shantha Biotechnics, a biotechnology pioneer and a wholly owned subsidiary of Sanofi, France highlighted the transformative role of vaccination in reducing the burden of preventable diseases. He was speaking on the third anniversary of Adult Vaccination Center of Continental Hospitals. He however, he termed as a paradox that our country, which produces some of the highest volumes of vaccines at low cost, is not as focused on adult vaccination.
Over the past three years, the Adult Vaccination Center at Continental Hospitals has administered more than 25,000 vaccine doses, benefiting over 12,000 adults against influenza, typhoid, hepatitis B and several other vaccine-preventable diseases. Dr. Guru N. Reddy, Founder & Chairman, Continental Hospitals, underlined the significant gap in adult immunization coverage in India and the need for greater awareness among healthcare professionals and the public. He also highlighted the low uptake of adult vaccines in India, noting that vaccination coverage remains approximately 1.5% for influenza, 1.9% for typhoid, 1.9% for hepatitis B and 0.6% for pneumococcal disease.
