Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy asserted that the Congress government is giving top priority to the political empowerment of all BC communities, he said a cabinet sub-committee will be constituted to study the inclusion of the Mudiraj community in BC - A category. Speaking at the 174th  birth anniversary celebrations of Panduga Sayanna Mudiraj, who fought for the rights of backward classes he said that the community is currently part of the BC-D category in the state.

The issue would be discussed in the next cabinet meeting, and advice from officials and legal experts will be sought, he said.

He suggested that Backward Classes Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar speak to other backward communities such as Gangaputras (who are already part of BC-A), to reassure them about sharing reservation benefits.

Highlighting the caste survey conducted by his government, he said the survey data helped every community raise its voice with greater vigour.

While the former chief minister of undivided Andhra Pradesh, N T Rama Rao, launched the scheme of rice at two rupees per kilogram, the Congress government is now providing fine-quality rice to 3.48 crore people free of cost through the Public Distribution System (PDS), he said.

The Congress government headed by him is continuing the policies of Chief Ministers N Chandrababu Naidu and Y S Rajasekhara Reddy followed in undivided Andhra Pradesh and K Chandrasekhar Rao after formation of Telangana, he said.

Recalling the contributions of prominent Telangana personalities, including Doddi Komuraiah and Panduga Sayanna, he said their statues will be installed at the Tank Bund on the banks of Hussain Sagar lake.

Praising Sayanna's contributions, Revanth Reddy said Sayanna supported the marginalised sections when feudal lords encroached on the lands of the poor during Nizam rule.

When Sayanna was arrested by the Nizam’s police, the then queen of Wanaparthy Samsthanam (feudal estate) paid a substantial sum to secure his release, he said.

Sayanna was killed unjustly, and even a century after his death, songs in his praise can still be heard today during agricultural operations like sowing, he said.

Panel to examine Mudiraj reclassification

The Telangana government is prioritising the political empowerment of Backward Classes (BCs) and will constitute a Cabinet sub-committee to examine the long-pending demand to reclassify the Mudiraj community from BC-D to the BC-A category.

Make Rahul Gandhi prime minister

Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Thursday pitched for making Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, prime minister to ensure the welfare of backward classes and to lead the country on the path of progress.

The Nehru family could have assumed the prime minister's post after Rajiv Gandhi's death but instead made Manmohan Singh, P V Narasimha Rao and I K Gujral prime ministers.

"Rahul Gandhi should become prime minister if justice is to be done to the backward classes. They could have become (PM) long ago had they wanted it. After Rajiv Gandhi's death, Congress came to power many times," he said.

The situation today is crucial, and they (Nehru family members) should take responsibility and lead the country forward, he said. He urged the gathering to set aside all issues when Lok Sabha elections take place and make a positive decision.
