The Telangana government has appointed C.V. Anand, a 1991 batch Indian Police Service officer, as the Director General of Police (Head of Police Force). He will assume charge on May 1. succeeding B. Shivadhar Reddy, who is set to retire on April 30.
Prior to this appointment, Anand was serving as Special Secretary in the Home Department. Over his distinguished career, he has held several key positions including Commissioner of Police, Hyderabad and Cyberabad, as well as Director General of the Telangana Anti Corruption Bureau. He also brings significant field experience, having served in Naxal-affected regions during the undivided Andhra Pradesh era.
Anand is a recipient of the President’s Gallantry Medal awarded in 2002, reflecting his contributions to policing and public service.
The selection followed due process, with the Union Public Service Commission forwarding a panel of eligible officers that included Anand, Vinayak Prabhakar Apte, and Soumya Mishra. The state government selected Anand as the senior-most officer from the panel.
The government has directed all concerned departments to ensure a smooth transition of responsibilities between the outgoing and incoming DGPs, ensuring continuity in leadership of the Telangana Police.
